About The Position

We are growing our Jacksonville, Florida location and hiring a Forklift Operator. Internally this career is known as a Yard Worker. This position is responsible to transfer, secure, and stage freight by operating forklifts and other equipment to load and unload trailers so that freight will arrive at final destination in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. This position works outdoors all of the time, regardless of weather. A yard worker is responsible to transfer, secure, and stage freight by operating the appropriate company equipment or vehicle so that loads will arrive at final destination in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Forklift certified or become certified within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.
  • Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects.
  • Good decision-making, problem-solving, attention to detail and customer service skills (internal/external).
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be able to operate all yard related equipment.
  • Basic experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with operating vehicle and heavy equipment in a transportation environment preferred.
  • Willing and able to travel occasionally, including overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Performs or assists in terminal maintenance by using motorized equipment and hand/power tools for the upkeep of the property.
  • Organizes, cleans, and secures storage yard and work areas to be free of any hazards.
  • Report any broken or missing equipment to supervisor.
  • Operates all terminal equipment and vehicles safely to limit risk and liability to the employee, visitors, and company.
  • Assists with the preparing of all loads for shipping by following all DOT, OSHA, and company safety guidelines to protect the load, public, equipment, and property at all times.
  • Looks up shipping instructions in computer system.
  • Assists with loading/unloading and securement of loads as needed.
  • Conducts required safety inspection checks daily.
  • Assists during the trailer stacking, unstacking, and securing.
  • Functions consistently, effectively and reliably perform in accordance with the Company's values as set forth in our core competencies and behaviors (All Employee Competencies).
  • Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours, and infrequent travel may be required.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
