The Yard Technician is responsible for the efficient check-in, management, and maintenance of rental equipment and its attachments. This role includes handling attachments, loading and unloading equipment, cleaning and inspecting equipment, and conducting basic operational and fluid checks. The Yard Technician ensures operational standards are maintained and supports customer satisfaction through attention to detail and effective yard operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to operate iPads and phone apps for company systems.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment operation.
  • Willingness to learn and operate heavy equipment such as loaders and excavators.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including proper lifting of heavy objects.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities to support all levels of the branch.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a similar role or knowledge of heavy equipment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Check-Ins:
  • Inspect and document the condition of returned rental equipment.
  • Record damages, missing parts, or discrepancies in the appropriate system.
  • Ensure timely and accurate check-ins of all equipment.
  • Attachment Management:
  • Properly organize, store, and maintain attachments.
  • Verify that all attachments are accounted for and in working condition.
  • Assist with attaching and detaching accessories as needed.
  • Loading and Unloading Equipment:
  • Safely load and unload equipment from delivery trucks and trailers.
  • Secure equipment properly during transport.
  • Follow all safety protocols to prevent damage or accidents.
  • Equipment Washing:
  • Clean and wash equipment to maintain professional appearance and performance.
  • Use professional-grade cleaning tools and solutions to remove dirt, grease, and debris.
  • Basic Functionality and Fluid Checks:
  • Perform routine checks on equipment to ensure it is operational.
  • Check and replenish fluids, including oil, fuel, hydraulic fluids, and coolant.
  • Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the Service Manager.
  • General Yard Maintenance:
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free yard environment.
  • Assist with inventory management and proper equipment placement.
  • Keep work areas tidy by sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, and performing routine maintenance of the wash bay and shop.
  • Support technicians during down periods or when additional help is needed.
  • Meet with truck drivers to finalize deliveries and pickups, ensuring proper documentation is signed (if applicable).
