About The Position

Trailer Equipment – Trailer X-Press is West Michigan’s leading supplier of major-brand trailers for sale or lease. With over 40 years of industry experience, we specialize in routine maintenance and rebuilding heavily damaged equipment to original manufacturer specifications. We maintain a complete parts inventory and provide 24-hour emergency service to keep our customers’ trailers on the road. We are seeking an immediate hire for a Class A Yard Switcher Driver to support yard operations and complete assigned local deliveries. This role requires strong safety awareness, attention to detail, and adherence to DOT and company standards.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to safely maneuver trailers in tight yard environments
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices
  • Dependable, safety-focused, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb in and out of truck regularly
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull as required
  • Ability to open and secure trailer doors and equipment
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Visual and physical ability to perform thorough vehicle inspections

Responsibilities

  • Move trailers in and out of designated parking and staging areas
  • Safely maneuver trailers and equipment throughout the yard
  • Open, close, secure, hook, and unhook trailer doors
  • Use wheel chocks and other safety devices to secure trailers
  • Complete assigned local deliveries
  • Perform daily post-shift vehicle inspections and report damage or mechanical issues
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs and required DOT documentation
  • Report maintenance or equipment issues immediately to management
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment
  • Keep truck interior and exterior clean and presentable
  • Follow accident and incident reporting procedures
  • Comply with DOT regulations and company policies
  • Obey traffic laws and follow established transportation procedures
  • Read maps and follow written or verbal routing instructions
  • Communicate delays, incidents, or traffic concerns via phone or two-way radio
  • Represent the company professionally and maintain positive customer interactions
