Yard Loader Operator / Yard Worker – Ready-Mix & Aggregates
About The Position
Shelby Materials is hiring a Yard Loader / Yard Worker to support our newly opened Tipton, IN operations by moving, loading, and managing aggregate materials and maintaining an organized, safe yard. This role is essential to keeping production running smoothly, making sure the right materials are available when the plant needs them. This is a hands-on job for someone who is dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working around heavy equipment in outdoor conditions. As a Yard Loader / Yard Worker, most days you'll be loading plant bins/hoppers, managing stockpiles, and keeping the yard organized and safe. You'll work closely with plant personnel to keep materials flowing and production on schedule.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Comfortable operating heavy equipment (wheel loader/dump truck) preferred: ready-mix, aggregates, construction, or similar environments a plus.
- Ability to perform basic equipment inspections and minor troubleshooting.
- Strong safety mindset and ability to follow policies and procedures.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic; able to work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills with plant personnel, drivers, and supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Operate a wheel loader, dump truck and other equipment strictly on site to move materials safely and efficiently.
- Load aggregate materials into bins, and designated stockpile areas.
- Monitor and sort incoming aggregates and help maintain material separation/organization.
- Coordinate with plant personnel to supply proper materials according to the production schedule.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance; report mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain strong housekeeping standards, keep the yard, stockpiles, returned concrete and loading areas clean and organized.
- Set up and maintain block forms daily to handle returned concrete
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment and wear required task-specific PPE at all times
