About The Position

The Yard dog driver is responsible for managing the movement and staging of trailers to and from the shelter, shipping dock, plant, and scales. The driver maintains order on the truck yard and stages trailers for operations. The yard dog driver ensures the safe and correct movement of trailers. The position reports to the CAS or Warehouse Supervisor w/ primary work schedule of Monday – Thursday (days) 6:00am – 5:30pm with flexibility to work overtime, early or late shift, and weekends, as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (Min.)
  • Working knowledge / experience in Yard dog equipment operation
  • Material handling & forklift experience– (required)
  • Strong experience operating/ troubleshooting yard jockey equipment
  • Solid understanding of food safety & animal welfare compliance
  • Self-directed team player w/ good communication / interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in fast-paced environment with minimum supervision
  • Basic computer and math skills
  • Lift / move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop up to 10 hrs./shift
  • Work safely indoors & outdoors in varying temperatures; wet environment (e.g., 35-40 / 100 degrees)

Nice To Haves

  • CDL; truck driving experience (preferred)
  • CDL / Truck driving experience (preferred / not required)

Responsibilities

  • Operates with a safety-first mindset to move trailers to and from the yard and loading locations
  • Maintains order of the truck yard and stages trailers for operations.
  • Assists with docking / undocking trailers and ensures safe and correct movement of trailers.
  • Inspects containers and performs yard checks
  • Safely loads product onto trailers, keeps accurate load documentation & delivery paperwork
  • Keeps the equipment and storage lot clean and in proper order; completes on-going housekeeping
  • Works within GMP, safety, and USDA guidelines to achieve top quality work
  • Willingly learns new skills, cross trains others, and trains new vehicle drivers on safety procedures
  • Performs other assigned duties as directed by supervisor/manager
