About The Position

The Yard Jockey/Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting trailers from the yard to the dock and vice versa. This role involves the use of power equipment to load and unload products, ensuring that all operations are conducted in compliance with safety regulations. The position requires a commitment to high business ethics, respect for all individuals, and a focus on continuous improvement within the company. Employees are expected to maintain flexibility in their work hours, reliability in attendance, and a positive attitude while performing their duties.

Requirements

• Ability to maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety requirements.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and climb in and out of truck cabs and trailers.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with shippers and consignees.
• Ability to read and understand work instructions and electronic communications.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a similar role within the transportation industry.
• Familiarity with regional geography and effective travel route planning.
• Previous experience with electronic communication tools and e-logs.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport trailers from yard to dock and dock to yard.
• Load and unload products using power equipment.
• Count, stack, and locate products as required.
• Follow all safety and regulatory requirements while operating a Class 8 commercial vehicle.
• Communicate effectively with customers and dispatch regarding delivery schedules and issues.
• Perform pre and post trip inspections of vehicles.
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the truck.
• Report any unsafe acts or equipment issues immediately to management.
