About The Position

The Yard Hostler is responsible for the safe and timely movement of vehicles/trailers around the facility's yard and plays a key role in the overall efficiency of the driving team as well as yard operations. It is a fast-paced, very physical environment where moving roll-off boxes and trailers, dumping materials from containers, and setting up trucks are part of your daily duties. This position requires compliance with all safety regulations and protocols. The Yard Hostler position can be physically demanding and is subject to variable weather conditions.

Requirements

• Safety-Oriented: Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines is critical.
• Communication: Good communication skills to effectively coordinate with other team members.
• Demonstrable experience as a Yard Hostler, Yard Jockey, or similar role in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
• Ability to lift, bend, and perform physical labor.
• Capable of working in various weather conditions.
• Flexibility to work different shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maneuvering vehicles/trailers and containers between areas of our facility.
• Ensure the accurate and timely setup of trailers for loading and unloading.
• Cleaning and refueling designated vehicles.
• Perform daily safety checks and pre-trip inspections on all equipment.
• Be able to lift heavy parts associated with this type of work.
• Compliance with all Company, State, Federal and OSHA policies, safety, and standards.
• Able to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with strong multitasking abilities, attention to detail, maximization of efficiencies and organizational skills.
• Maintain accurate logs of all trailer movements, ensuring documentation is available and accurate for inventory and audit purposes.
• Communicate effectively with Yard Manager, Equipment Operators, and other staff to align priorities and address any issues or challenges.
• Ensure timely communication with the Yard Manager to address any equipment issues or malfunctions.
• Keep the facility clean.
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, including utilizing personal protective equipment and ensuring safe trailer connections and movements.
• Monitor and maintain a safe driving speed within the yard, ensuring the safety of all personnel and property.
• Conduct daily inspections of yard trucks and other equipment, reporting any malfunctions or issues to management promptly.
• Seek direction when caught up on regular tasks and space is available.
