About The Position

The Fleet Yard Helper at Leesel Transportation Corp. is primarily responsible for ensuring the efficient and organized flow of Mini School buses within the yard. This includes managing the departure sequence of buses, verifying that drivers complete their pre-trip inspections and DVIRs, and ensuring buses returning in the evening have sufficient fuel. The role also involves reporting and following up on safety concerns, maneuvering buses within and out of the yard onto Webster Avenue, and maintaining overall yard organization. The individual will assist the Fleet team in establishing designated areas for 'out of service vehicles' and will be responsible for sorting and securely storing bus keys. This position requires constant communication and professionalism when interacting with bus drivers and attendants, and close collaboration with the Fleet and Shop departments. The role involves working flexible, split shifts and requires the ability to perform duties outdoors in various weather conditions, including snow removal.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Willingness to adapt to changes.
Must wear uniform, and identifiable gear (Reflective vest, Steel toe shoe).
Maintain proper communication & professionalism.

Nice To Haves

CDL carrier preferable, endorsements optional.

Responsibilities

Ensure Mini School buses leave the year in a prearranged pattern, with earlier routes exiting first.
Check that drivers are completing their pre-trip inspection and DVIR.
Start the fleet earlier during the winter months.
Ensure all buses returning to the yard during the evenings have a full gas tank or close to.
Report and follow issues safety concerns.
Pull buses in and out of the yard onto Webster Avenue.
Maintain the organization of the yard.
Adapt to changes as the company moves towards a better structured path.
With the assistance of Fleet, create designated areas for 'out of service vehicles' and others.
Ensure Bus keys are sorted and safely kept (keys must remain at Dispatch when buses are not in use).
Perform Snow Removal.
Maintain proper communication & professionalism in the yard and outside the yard with bus drivers/attendants.
