Summary The Yard Forklift Operator plays an essential role in our distribution network. This role works primarily outdoors and requires operating large forklifts (minimum 12,000‑lb capacity) to safely handle materials—including 40‑ft pipe and bundled products. The operator is responsible for accurate inventory, safe handling of materials, loading and unloading flatbed trailers, and maintaining a clean and safe yard environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating forklifts, including large‑capacity lifts (12k+), or ability to be trained and certified.
  • Prior experience in yard, warehouse, distribution, or shipping environments preferred.
  • Basic data entry skills and Outlook email proficiency.
  • Ability to: Clearly and effectively communicate with customers, vendors, and co‑
  • Organize and prioritize orders to meet shipping deadlines.
  • Work independently with limited supervision as a self‑
  • Constantly exerting up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Frequently exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Regular stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, and walking.
  • Outdoor work environment with exposure to weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely maneuver and operate large forklifts and handle 40‑ft material.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate large forklifts (minimum 12,000‑lb capacity) in an outdoor environment.
  • Load and unload flatbed trailers with 40‑ft HDPE pipe bundles and other long‑length materials.
  • Load and unload large structures and fittings from flatbed trailers.
  • Ensure load is secure with proper banding and dunnage on flatbed trailers.
  • Handle, stage, and store 40‑ft material in an organized manner while ensuring proper weight distribution and stability.
  • Bundle and secure 40‑ft HDPE pipe using approved tools and methods.
  • Verify incoming products against packing lists and receipts.
  • Maintain accurate inventory through Epicor‑Prelude (ERP) and conduct daily cycle counts.
  • Use the Transportation Management System (TMS) to select shipping modes and carriers.
  • Ensure accurate and efficient preparation of items for shipment.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices across the yard, ensuring clear aisles and safe working conditions.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and report hazards immediately.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements and workflow efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
