About The Position

Yachad, a division of The Orthodox Union, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish organization‚ supports individuals with intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities. Yachad helps these individuals participate more fully in Jewish life and the broader society by providing educational, employment, and relationship opportunities. The Orthodox Union (OU) is the largest Orthodox Jewish organization in the United States. Founded in 1898, the OU supports a network of synagogues, youth programs, Jewish and Religious Zionist advocacy programs, programs for the disabled, localized religious study programs, and international units. The OU maintains a kosher certification service, whose circled U symbol is found on the labels of many kosher commercial and consumer food products. Position Summary: The Regional Director provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight of Yachad’s programs and services. The Director builds community relationships, raises awareness of the organization, and secures resources to support those in need. This role oversees programming, supervises staff, and partners with other organizations to ensure the region grows strategically and serves the disability community in line with Yachad’s mission and values. The Director drives growth in membership and programs, using strong supervisory skills and knowledge of the community to expand services for individuals with disabilities in Los Angeles. This is a hybrid position requiring three days in person at the OU Los Angeles office and two days remote, with travel to the Yachad main office in New York once or twice per year.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the field.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Yachad.
  • Well-versed in Jewish values and beliefs.
  • Experience in Jewish communal work.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding budgets and program planning.
  • Self-starter; able to work independently.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in the disability community preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create, communicate, and execute a continuous, evolving strategy and vision for the chapter.
  • Build strong relationships with Yachad families to understand their needs and where the gaps are.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Yachad members, parents, donors, and leadership through various media (face-to-face meetings, direct mail, e-mail, newsletters, website, etc.)
  • Work with the Yachad marketing team to create a marketing and public relations strategy to promote Yachad throughout the area.
  • Work with the Yachad Development Department to understand the donors in the community and how to best position the region for success.
  • Cultivate relationships with local lay leaders, principals, rabbis, directors, and other community leaders at a local and regional level to drive Yachad’s growth and impact.
  • Cultivate relationships and partner with other organizations that serve individuals with disabilities to further Yachad’s mission and best support the disability community.
  • Ensure the LA Region is facilitating inclusive Shabbat programs that are successful in participant engagement as well as community engagement.
  • Ensure that the region is planning for successful school engagement through various school clubs, partner social programs, and other activities throughout the year.
  • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and coach staff as needed
  • Provide a nurturing work environment in which all staff, volunteers, Yachad members, and peers feel valued, appreciated, and acknowledged for their contributions to the team.
  • Provide ongoing supervision to staff and feedback regularly. Feedback should be honest, compassionate, constructive, fair, and specific.
  • Supervise the Program Director and other programmatic staff in the development of a comprehensive calendar of meaningful and fun programming at Yachad’s center and in the community that meets the needs and interests of Yachad participants and their families, and includes Shabbat programming.
  • Regularly analyze programming to ensure evolution and innovation, quality, engagement, and effective results.
  • Comply with Communal Engagement Department requests for information and assistance as requested.
  • Ensure programs comply with all Yachad policies and local laws
