About The Position

Are you passionate about helping kids learn, grow, and thrive? Join the YMCA of Greater Kansas City as a Youth Development Leader in our Y Club before and after school program. This position plays a key role in creating a fun, safe, and supportive environment for elementary-aged children. You'll lead fun activities with a group of children, including crafts, sports, snack time and more! Split shift schedules allow the flexibility to work and still have some of your day free! Schedules include weekdays before school from 6:30am-8:00am and after school from 3:15pm-6:00pm. Hourly Rates Range $14.00/hour minimum increases to rates are case-by-case based on experience and education relevant to the field of youth development.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required at Kansas sites.
  • One year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with school age children (may include working as a babysitter, nanny or other childcare program).
  • Commitment to provide quality youth development services at all levels.
  • Demonstrated public relations and leadership skills in working with program parents, school personnel, children and co-workers.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Have a general understanding of computer technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and lead a group of children in the program.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by knowing participant locations at all times, making participants aware of and enforcing appropriate safety regulations and procedures, applying appropriate behavior management techniques, and maintaining all program equipment and facilities.
  • Implement group activity plan; preparing materials, activities, and environments.
  • Consistently model positive interactions and discipline by teaching and redirecting rather than scolding; firmly enforce rules while treating all children with dignity and respect to help build their self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
  • Adhere to all processes, procedures, rules and regulations of the YMCA, licensing and school district.
  • Positively ID individuals picking-up before releasing children (picture ID necessary until you can personally identify them).
  • Identify emergency situations then respond quickly and appropriately.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and fellow YMCA team members.
  • Be prompt and dependable to work scheduled hours; providing proper notice for time off and working with supervisor on coverage for day(s) requested off.
  • Clean and pick up areas used by the program, as needed.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect and notify appropriate associates of any suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents or injuries immediately.
