About the position

Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist, performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to produce quality radiographic images as requested for subsequent interpretation by the radiologist. All duties are performed according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Promotes service excellence in all interactions as outlined in the Key Behaviors in the YNHH Core Success Factors. To meet the staffing needs of the department, as necessary, Diagnostic Radiology staff may be assigned at any of the YNHH Diagnostic Radiology locations, regardless of your regularly assigned work location.

Responsibilities

  • Performs quality and efficient diagnostic radiographic examinations, utilizing appropriate protocols and age specific standards.
  • Operates radiographic equipment to ensure proper technical results.
  • Conducts daily inspection of radiographic equipment to ensure proper performance and image quality.
  • Prepares examination room to ensure a clean and safe environment with adequate supplies to assure efficient and accurate performance of exams.
  • Performs quality and compassionate patient care, utilizing appropriate age specific standards, to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
  • Thoroughly explains the procedure to ensure patient physical and emotional comfort.
  • Performs various record keeping, customer service functions, and communicates feedback to ensure the goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently.
  • Accurately edits and completes all examinations in Imagecast to ensure proper medical record documentation and billing.
  • Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities in order to further his/her own personal knowledge and to assist in expanding the knowledge of others.
  • Receptive to teaching new technologists, students, residents.
  • Achieves patient satisfaction scores set by the department on the Test & Treatment section of our Press Ganey Survey.
  • Presents themselves in a friendly and courteous manner; identifies themselves and their role while encouraging a Patient and Family Center experience.
  • Fully explains procedure and asks if the patient has any additional questions about the procedure.
  • Addresses any comfort issues a patient may have prior to starting procedure.
  • Thanks patient once procedure is completed and asks the patient if they have any additional questions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an A.M.A. approved Radiologic Technology program.
  • AS degree preferred but not required with relevant years of experience.
  • Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine radiography.
  • RT(R) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Connecticut State License.
  • CPR Certification preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in routine Radiography CR/Digital imaging techniques.
  • Above average knowledge of computer / PACS applications.
  • Good organizational and communication/customer service skills.
