Position Summary The Imaging and Process Control (IPC) Group at Applied Materials develops, manufactures and markets advanced inspection products powered by deep learning and computer vision. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Business Unit Controller to join the IPC Finance team and lead finance for a newly acquired business unit, X-ray Control Technologies (XCT). This role serves as a trusted finance partner to XCT management and works closely with the BU CFO and Corporate Accounting to oversee site‑level accounting and financial reporting, support FP&A activities, implement robust systems and processes, and accelerate post‑acquisition finance integration. This is a full‑time, onsite leadership role based in Benicia, California. Key Responsibilities This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in partnering with cross functional leadership teams in building a scalable accounting and finance infrastructure in a fast moving, engineering‑driven manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of the close process
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in manufacturing or operational finance roles is a strong plus
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing capabilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and startup-like environment
  • Proactive, curious, and passionate about learning and growth
  • Comfortable leveraging AI-enabled tools to streamline processes, improve accuracy, and drive efficiency
  • Proficiency using ERP systems (SAP, Blackline) and BI Tools (Power BI, Tableau) is preferred.
  • Excellent skills in Excel

  • CPA and/or CMA certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and GAAP-compliant financial statements
  • Oversee all core accounting activities, including general ledger, revenue and deferred revenue, manufacturing cost and inventory accounting, fixed assets, AR/AP, and project accounting
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce finance and accounting policies, internal controls, and governance standards in partnership with Corporate Accounting
  • Partner closely with Operations and Engineering to ensure accurate accounting treatment for Inventory, manufacturing activities and R&D spend
  • Lead inventory and manufacturing cost analysis, including BOM roll-ups, purchase price variance (PPV), labor and overhead absorption, and E&O reserves
  • Drive product cost analyses and support pricing, margin and profitability decisions in collaboration with BU CFO, Sales Operations, and Product Management
  • Drive finance operating rhythm and lead FP&A activities including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis across multiple programs
  • Manage OpEx and CapEx spend
  • Develop and deliver scenario-based financial models to support business decisions, investment trade-offs and growing planning
  • Support the implementation and management of systems and processes for transaction support, cost tracking, and accurate financial reporting
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, participate in the design, testing, and implementation of enhanced processes, and drive continuous improvement
  • Mentor and support extended BU finance team members, fostering a culture of learning and excellence
  • Act as a finance leader onsite, effectively influencing cross‑functional stakeholders and executive leadership
