We're looking for an engineer to build the Xcode IDE, a cornerstone of the Apple Developer Ecosystem. Millions of application developers use Xcode to deliver on their ambitions, and countless organizations use Xcode to transform ideas into launched applications. Our team delivers the foundation of Xcode, both UI and behind-the-scenes logic. Every team member brings unique skills and perspectives. Far more than any specific language or API experience, we're looking for engineers with initiative, confidence, and a passion for the craft of developing software for software developers. As an engineer on the Xcode internals team, you'll build, design, and refine features in Xcode. Our team is responsible for the framework in which many other components live, as well as some of the Xcode UI. You will improve core pieces of functionality, improve stability and performance, and assist feature growth. An important part of your job will be to seek continuous refinement and improvement of existing solutions, there are always opportunities to apply polish and tighten robustness. You will work cross-functionally within Apple to shape and drive architecture. At Apple, you'll work with the engineers who create our frameworks, languages, compilers, and operating systems, bringing an incredible amount of knowledge, transparency, and context to the features you'll build. In developer tools, you'll have the unique opportunity to directly improve your development environment by building features for the tools you'll use every day.

  • Develop features and fixing bugs in Xcode
  • Developing in Swift and Objective-C
  • Writing tests for newly developed functionality
  • Measure speed and quality and develop any necessary corrections
  • Communicating through pull requests, in-person conversations, and Slack
  • Triaging feedback from internal and external customers to steer quality, usability and features investments
  • Wholistically prioritizing, scoping, and scheduling features
  • Experience writing native UI applications for desktop or mobile operating systems
  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Solid experience authoring native desktop or mobile applications on any platform
  • Appreciation for engineering practices that maximize maintainability and quality
  • Thorough understanding of computer science fundamentals
  • Experience working in large, mature codebases
