The X-Ray technician supports orthopedic surgeons by performing high-quality diagnostic imaging and intra-operative fluoroscopy in a fast-paced outpatient surgical center. This roles requires strong technical skills, attention to patient safety, and the ability to work closely with surgeons, nurses, and surgical staff.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
  • Active ARRT certification (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Current state radiologic technologist license (as required by state regulations)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of orthopedic imaging techniques and fluoroscopy
  • Strong understanding of radiation safety practices
  • Current CPR certification
  • Must meet all health and screening requirements for specific assignments

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in an orthopedic surgery center, operating room, or outpatient surgical setting
  • Experience operating C‑arm fluoroscopy units
  • Familiarity with orthopedic procedures such as joint replacements, arthroscopy, and fracture fixation
  • Experience with EMR and PACS systems
  • Strong attention to detail and image quality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced surgical environment
  • Professional demeanor with patients and clinical staff
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient transfers
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing surgical schedules

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic radiographic imaging, including extremity, spine, and joint studies
  • Operate C‑arm fluoroscopy equipment during orthopedic surgical procedures
  • Position patients accurately to obtain optimal diagnostic images while ensuring comfort and safety
  • Assist surgeons intraoperatively by adjusting imaging equipment as requested
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols for patients, physicians, and staff
  • Apply proper shielding and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles
  • Verify imaging orders and patient identification prior to procedures
  • Maintain accurate imaging records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Prepare and maintain imaging equipment, ensuring proper calibration and cleanliness
  • Recognize and report equipment malfunctions promptly
  • Follow infection control, sterile field, and OSHA safety standards
  • Provide patient education and reassurance before and during imaging procedures
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiology, nursing, and administrative staff
