About The Position

For 50 years, Brooks Rehabilitation [https://brooksrehab.org/], headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., has been a comprehensive source for physical rehabilitation services. As a nonprofit organization, Brooks operates one of the nation’s largest inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the U.S. with 160 beds, one of the region’s largest home healthcare agencies, 40 outpatient therapy clinics, a Center for Inpatient Rehabilitation in partnership with Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, the Brooks Rehabilitation Medical Group, two skilled nursing facilities, assisted living and memory care. Brooks will treat more than 60,000 patients through its system of care each year. In addition, Brooks operates the Clinical Research Center, which specializes in research for stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and more to advance the science of rehabilitation. Position Summary: The X-Ray Courier ( Patient Transporter) is primarily responsible for facilitating the efficient and timely transport of patients to and from Memorial Hospital (MHJ) for diagnostic testing and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent with the ability to communicate and follow written instructions.
  • Must have a minimum of 6 months experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Must be proficient in basic and advanced patient transfers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure patient preparation for transport by consistent communication with nursing.
  • Transport patient to/from designated area or patient room to/from designated area and/or procedures at MHJ.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in designated areas as assigned (i.e., patient waiting rooms, day rooms, nursing core area).
  • Provide courier function for supplies and other patient or unit related needs.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Demonstrate correct use of transport equipment and transfer techniques.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances.
  • Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner, takes and relays messages, and complies with requests according to established policy and procedure.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with all departments and with MHJ.
  • Other duties as assigned by Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager
