About The Position

The WY Sagebrush Ecologist at The Nature Conservancy plays a crucial role in conserving the sagebrush ecosystem in Wyoming. This position involves collecting, managing, and analyzing data to prioritize conservation actions, conducting scientific surveys, and coordinating conservation programs. The ecologist will work in challenging conditions and collaborate with various partners to address the threats posed by invasive species, particularly cheatgrass, to the sagebrush biome.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a science-related field and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience collecting, manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data.
  • Experience preparing reports of findings.

  • Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience.
  • Experience designing and conducting ecological and/or social research.
  • Spatial data skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and scientific support to defend the core of the sagebrush ecosystem in Wyoming.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze data to prioritize conservation actions.
  • Conduct scientific surveys and research related to sagebrush ecosystems.
  • Record data, write reports, and develop proposals for conservation programs.
  • Conduct semi-structured interviews to understand barriers to management actions.
  • Design field data collection plans and conduct spatial analyses.
  • Supervise field technicians and manage field data collection.
  • Build relationships with partners and co-produce work plans.
