About The Position

The WWTP Operator at Mustang Special Utility District plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the wastewater treatment plant. This position involves monitoring and maintaining the treatment process, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and performing regular maintenance on plant equipment. The WWTP Operator is responsible for collecting and analyzing data, managing chemical dosing, and conducting routine inspections to ensure the plant operates efficiently and produces high-quality effluent. The WWTP Operator helps the district provide safe and reliable water services by supporting the plant's operational integrity and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Class “D” wastewater license within 6months.
  • Class “C” wastewater license before the “D” license expires.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with regulatory agencies, customers, and internal teams. Ability to prepare detailed reports and documentation.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities to address operational challenges promptly and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent customer service skills to address inquiries and resolve complaints professionally.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 100 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions. Adherence to safety protocols.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities to manage compliance schedules, track regulatory deadlines, and maintain detailed records.
  • High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in compliance documentation, maintenance records, and operational procedures.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data from various monitoring devices to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Thorough understanding of TCEQ regulations and environmental standards related to wastewater treatment.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining wastewater treatment systems, including activated sludge processes, solids treatment, and MBR systems.
  • Obtain and maintain a Class “C” Wastewater Operator License issued by the TCEQ within three years of employment.
  • Participate in ongoing training programs to stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Ability to see details at close range and at a distance for inspections and monitoring activities.
  • Ability to listen and understand information in various environments.
  • Clear verbal communication skills to provide instructions and updates to staff and regulatory bodies.
  • Proficient use of hands and fingers for handling tools, equipment, and performing inspections.
  • Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions promptly.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain performance under high-pressure situations and tight deadlines.
  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.

Responsibilities

  • Manage treatment operations, ensuring optimal process efficiency and proper facility monitoring.
  • Conduct basic maintenance and repairs on plant equipment, perform constant hourly equipment inspections, and identify issues that need attention.
  • Gather data from flow meters, lab equipment, and other monitoring devices.
  • Analyze the data to monitor plant performance and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Control chemical dosing processes, such as chlorine dosing, to ensure proper disinfection of plant effluent.
  • Ensure all operations comply with TCEQ rules and regulations, as well as prepare and submit necessary reports.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols, identifying and mitigating safety hazards.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding facility operations and address odor complaints in a timely and effective manner.
  • Perform janitorial functions and yard maintenance to ensure the facility is clean and well-maintained.
  • Oversee the maintenance of facility grounds, coordinating with outside contractors as needed.
