The City of Spokane is seeking a skilled Crane Operator for its Waste to Energy Plant. This position involves the operation of an overhead crane to ensure the proper flow of refuse to the operating boilers and to effectively manage the refuse pit. The Crane Operator will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are critical to the efficient functioning of the plant, including the mixing and stacking of refuse, maintaining the refuse flow, and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the work area. In this role, the operator will operate the overhead crane smoothly while managing the refuse pit, which includes closing bays and maintaining a trench along the tipping floor to facilitate the delivery of refuse from trucks. The operator will also monitor and clean the refuse cranes and the surrounding area, inspecting the crane for any damage or wear. Safety is a top priority, and the operator will be responsible for monitoring the refuse pit, charging dock, and tipping floor for any potential fires, safety hazards, or incoming unacceptable waste. Additionally, the Crane Operator will be required to record and log inspection data, such as cable cuts and the service length of cables, while identifying any recurring problems. Regular maintenance tasks, such as lubricating grease points on cranes and grapples, will also be part of the job. The operator will report any safety or environmental hazards to the shift supervisor and perform related work as required. This position requires the ability to work at heights, communicate effectively in noisy environments, and access confined spaces.
