The Writing Center Consultant position is designed for NKU students to assist their peers with written assignments across various courses. Consultants will engage with students to discuss assignment instructions, the rhetorical situation, purpose, and thesis development. They will also help set goals for each session and provide constructive feedback on students' work. The role requires approximately 10 hours of work per week, scheduled around the consultant's class commitments and the needs of the Writing Center.

  • Tutor NKU students who request assistance in improving their writing skills on specific writing assignments.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions.
  • Attend weekly mandatory training sessions on Fridays at 3:00 pm.
  • Must carry 6 or more semester credit hours during employment (3 credit hours for graduate students).
  • GPA of 3.50 or higher.
  • 30 or more undergraduate semester credit hours earned, including ENG 101 & ENG 102/291W or HNR 101 & 102 or equivalent.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Faculty recommendation (not required at time of application).
  • Experience in tutoring or teaching writing.
  • Familiarity with various writing styles and formats.
  • Flexible work hours that accommodate class schedules.
