About The Position

The Wrangler is responsible for horse care, rider supervision, trail leadership, and guest support on a 35,000-acre private recreational ranch. The Wrangler oversees conditioning of 10 horses, care of barn animals, safety of all riders, and ensures exceptional guest experiences. Supports ranch operations, facility care, and optional cattle work. This is a seasonal role from approximately mid-May through mid-October.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills for instructing riders and interacting with guests.
  • Experience hauling horse trailers.
  • Positive, cooperative team member with a strong service mindset.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and works well with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing guest needs, hours, and operational demands.
  • Ability to remain calm and think independently in emergent situations.
  • Professional demeanor and strong work ethic.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Sufficient strength, coordination, and stamina to perform ranch labor and horseback riding daily.
  • Handle and work safely around large animals with unpredictability
  • Work outdoors for long durations and in varying (sometimes extreme) weather conditions
  • Stand for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced horsemanship skills.
  • Prior experience on a working ranch, guest ranch, or outdoor recreation facility with equine programs.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with basic ranch maintenance (e.g., fencing, irrigation, minor repairs).
  • Prior experience with hospitality or guest‑service roles.
  • Familiarity with backcountry, wilderness riding, or navigation.
  • Knowledge of large‑animal first aid and early‑sign injury or illness detection.
  • Ability to safely operate ranch vehicles (ATVs, UTVs, trucks) depending on training and authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Herd management and daily monitoring of horse health.
  • Individual horse care, grooming, feeding, and conditioning plans.
  • Perform common veterinary care and coordinate with external vets as needed.
  • Lead, instruct, and supervise riders of all experience levels.
  • Ensure safety protocols are always followed during rides and in barn areas.
  • Schedule daily trail rides, horse rotations, conditioning routines, and guest activities.
  • Maintain barn facilities, tack, arenas, and surrounding landscaping.
  • Deliver high-quality guest service including ride preparation, safety briefings, and hospitality support.
  • Participate in cattle work depending on interest and operational needs.
  • Assist with guest services when visitors are there. This includes bedroom flips, meal cleanup, and assistance with general cleaning 3–4 times weekly.
  • Other duties as assigned.
