About The Position

Responsible to assist in the oversight of all horse-related camps and activities, including management of the herd, campers, program development, health and safety, training, riding programs, classes, barn, pasture, and equipment management.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, exercising personal faith through consistent daily living in accordance with God’s Word.
  • Understands the mission of Palomar Christian Conference Center and is in agreement with its Statement of Faith, and submits all other goals and desires to that main goal.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possesses interpersonal skills such as are required to maintain positive relations with both staff and guests.
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills and presents a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Possesses strong attention to detail and organization while managing multiple priorities.
  • Is proficient in basic Microsoft applications (Windows, Office, etc.)
  • Must have (3) three years prior work experience in a related field.
  • Must have extensive horse experience and understand horse behavior.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and move a minimum of 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Stable & Facility Management
  • Barn/facility maintenance and cleaning.
  • Pasture maintenance and cleaning.
  • Equipment care – i.e. clean, oil, repair and replace tack as needed.
  • Seasonal inspection of horse vehicles, trailers, and carts.
  • Must take part in the fire evacuation plan for the specific area assigned.
  • Health/Management of the Herd
  • Provide essential veterinary care and work in concert with PCCC Horsemanship Director.
  • Follow the assigned feeding schedule and nutritional needs of the herd and senior animals.
  • Appropriate grooming of horses.
  • Fly/insect management.
  • Report supply needs to Horsemanship Director (feed, medical, etc.)
  • Safety
  • Notice and correct safety hazards to campers, staff, and horses.
  • Be able to know when a horse is unsafe for a particular rider.
  • Report to the Horsemanship Director campers having difficulties or are not feeling well.
  • Enforce all barn rules and safety procedures daily.
  • Horse Training
  • Ride horses as needed.
  • Follow directions for the correction of bad behaviors.
  • Scheduled schooling.
  • Seasonal conditioning.
  • Help train new horses under the direction and supervision of the Horsemanship director.
  • Trail Rides
  • Welcome and orient guests.
  • Evaluate the riding skills of guests.
  • Safely match a suitable horse with the rider’s ability and mental state.
  • Prepare them for their lessons.
  • Conduct a safe, enjoyable, and successful ride/lesson.
  • Program Camps
  • Assist in the direction of activities at the barn during Horse Camp.
  • Responsible for keeping wranglers in training and campers on task.
  • Teach lessons for wranglers-in-training in coordination with Horsemanship Director.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of horse curriculum – i.e. vaulting, horse science, etc.
  • Assist with the Showdeo as directed by the Horsemanship Director.
  • Welcomes and greets parents and oversees the safety of family members at the facility.
  • Works in conjunction with the Horsemanship Director to develop existing and new horse programs.
  • Participates in program camp activities as directed.
  • Is in direct communication with Horsemanship Director.
