The Wound RN provides treatment based upon an established plan of care for patients with wounds, fistulas, percutaneous tubes, ostomies, incontinence, and actual or potential skin breakdown. This role serves as a resource and consultant to patients and nursing staff, performing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care provided. The Wound RN collaborates with the WOCN to implement changes in the plan of care. The department focuses on treating acute or chronic wounds caused by diabetes, surgery, injury, poor blood flow, and other problems, with a physician-driven scope centered around wound, ostomy, and continence care, while also maintaining additional adjunctive therapies such as vein medicine and hyperbaric medicine.
