This job assists with basic patient care within the scope of practice under the direction and supervision of the physician and/or wound care ostomy nurse. Requirements

  • Education Required – High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Experience Required – 3 months of patient care assistant, clinical rotation, or related healthcare experience OR No experience with the completion of a related healthcare course.
  • Certifications Required – Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of wound care.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with people from all backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, web-based applications, and electronic medical record.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred – 3 years of wound care, certified nursing assistant, patient care technician, or medical assistant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to licensed personnel during wound assessment and as requested.
  • Assists in collection of specimens.
  • Removes dressings, cleans wounds, takes wound photos, and performs measurements.
  • Sets up and cleans patient treatment areas, cleans instruments, and sets up for special procedures and sterilization of instruments.
  • Applies dressing under direction of licensed personnel.
  • Performs required documentation and communicates with patients, families, and other staff members to meet needs.
  • Identifies changing conditions with patients and follows through appropriately.
  • Handles inventory control, stocking, and ordering as directed.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.
