The primary purpose of this position is to provide wound care to patients to decrease complications, speed healing time, and assist in maximum recovery for patients.

Requirements

  • Must have completed or hold one of the following: Two (2) years of experience in a Med/Surg environment, a formal nurse aide course, a current certified nurse aide registry, a medical assistant course, a current medical assistant certificate, a patient care technician course, a current patient care technician certificate, or must be a currently enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Previous experience as a wound care technician preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR HeartSaver (First Aid/CPR/AED) required from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross Rescuer, Military Training Network.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with wound care.
  • Perform specified patient care activities, under the direction of a licensed medical provider, including providing basic hygiene care, unsterile treatments, taking vital signs, and range of motion exercises.
  • Lift, ambulate, and feed patients in accordance with the provision of patient centered/patient valued care.
  • Serve as a patient advocate by responding to a patient’s needs and special requests.
  • Maintain open communication, and honor patient’s rights and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate wound care to patients and family members in collaboration with the licensed medical provider.
  • Maintain, update, and utilize knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, supplies and equipment usage.
  • Monitor conditions of patient environment and equipment, and report deficiencies or defects.
  • Monitor ongoing patient status, including wounds, and respond to a patient's change in condition.
  • Escort patients to other areas, clean designated or special area, provide or request translation services when applicable.
  • Perform quality control checks and deliver patient specimens when applicable.
  • Stock and distribute supplies, transport linens, and complete charge vouchers.
  • Take responsibility for own professional growth and development by attending in-services and reading internal publications.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with staff, patients, family members, and physicians.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Wound Care area.
