About The Position

The Worldwide Public Sector (WWPS) Industry Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is an executive responsible for shaping and executing Microsoft's technology vision for government, defense & intelligence, and education customers worldwide. The CTO translates global technology strategy into impactful execution, ensuring Microsoft's platforms and products address the evolving needs of the public sector, with an emphasis on AI, security, and sovereignty. As the primary bridge between the field and Engineering, the CTO influences product direction, drives innovation, and ensures regulatory, security, and sovereignty requirements are embedded in Microsoft's technology roadmap. This leader is a visible champion for Microsoft's mission and values, representing the company at major industry events, with strategic customers and partners, and within internal communities. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or related field AND 6+ years marketing, strategy, business planning, consulting, banking, finance, economics, and/or partner organization experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Liberal Arts, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years marketing, strategy, business planning, consulting, banking, finance, economics, and/or partner organization experience OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience in Strategy, Management Consulting, and/or Finance.
  • Expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and emerging technology trends relevant to the public sector.
  • Leading or advising on technology initiatives involving sovereignty, compliance, or regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated impact influencing product direction and strategy across multiple engineering organizations.
  • Extensive experience engaging with C-suite stakeholders and contributing to strategic deals.
  • Proven track record in building and managing communities of practice across diverse regions and functions.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire public sector customers to digitally transform with the Microsoft platform, leveraging deep industry and technology expertise.
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with C-suite executives, acting as a strategic advisor and thought leader on technology, compliance, and digital innovation.
  • Serve as executive sponsor for key accounts and contribute to strategic deals, ensuring customer relevance and business impact.
  • Embed in critical opportunities to accelerate public sector progress and unlock new phases of digital transformation.
  • Define and continuously refine the technology vision for Microsoft's public sector business, with a focus on AI, security, and sovereignty.
  • Act as the principal connection between the public sector field organization and Microsoft Engineering, ensuring customer and regulatory requirements are reflected in product roadmaps and technical priorities.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with engineering leaders across multiple product groups.
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment and accelerate the resolution of technical challenges impacting public sector customers.
  • Contribute to key strategic deals by providing technical leadership, executive sponsorship, and direct engagement to help secure successful outcomes for Microsoft and its customers.
  • Represent Microsoft's viewpoint at key industry events and forums, articulating the company's perspective on technology, compliance, and innovation.
  • Aggregate and share insights, best practices, and market trends to inform global strategy and deepen industry capability.
  • Drive scale of technology adoption by educating and enabling the public sector technology community, field leaders, and partners.
  • Cultivate communities of practice among technology leaders, both within Microsoft and across the broader public sector ecosystem.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the National Technology Officer (NTO) community, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and unified messaging across regions.
  • Orchestrate regular rhythms and forums to ensure alignment, information exchange, and execution velocity across all stakeholder groups.
