Hixson High School is a 9-12 school located in Hixson, TN, just north of Chattanooga. The mission of Hixson High School is to provide an individualized, safe learning environment for all students to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially in order to be productive, global citizens. We have a collaborative culture committed to student achievement and teacher/staff development.
We are proud to offer our students post-secondary pathways through three Future Ready Institutes: Institute of Business Leaders and Owners, CHI Memorial Institute of Healthcare and Medical Careers, and the Institute of Integrative Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources. In addition, Hixson highlights the arts through our orchestra, concert and jazz bands, concert and show choir, drama, and award-winning visual arts program. Hixson has a plethora of advanced and extended learning opportunities to include: Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, and State Dual Credit courses. Candidates should be competent in subject matter, willing to be pedagogically coached, and committed to being a team player.

• Teaching candidates must hold a valid state of Tennessee teaching certification with the appropriate World Language Endorsement, or be upcoming graduates in an accredited teacher preparation program. If you hold a teaching license in another state, you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license.
• Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree.

Nice To Haves

• Experienced in high-need or Title-I School settings. Experience with English Language Learners is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess effective instruction that is tightly aligned with State standards.
• Designs lessons based on best practices with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned with State standards and/or unit outcomes. Frequently plans collaboratively with colleagues.
• Conveys high expectations while using multiple effective strategies, materials, and classroom practices that involve and motivate students while differentiating instruction to meet students’ needs.
• Uses colleagues and own self-reflection on instructional practice to continually improve instruction.
• Fosters a well-structured and engaging learning environment by utilizing effective classroom procedures and routines while showing caring, respect, and fairness for all students.
• Consistently develops strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children. Provides opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning.
• Actively seeks out opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders in order to improve teaching & learning. Reflects on own instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
