About The Position

Description Qualifications Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure. Hold a current, valid qualified or professional certification by the American Sign Language Teachers Association; or Hold a current, valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level III Interpreting Certification or higher issued by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing; or Hold a current, valid Registry of Interpreters for Deaf certification at least one of the following: Certification of Interpretation (CI), Certification of Deaf Interpretation (CDI), Reverse Skills Certification (RSC), or Comprehensive Skills Certification (CSC); or Hold a current, valid National Association for the Deaf Level IV Certification or higher, and Earned a minimum of three semester hours of methods of teaching foreign languages at the elementary and secondary levels from a regionally accredited college or university. Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required. Experience Experience teaching high school students. Experience teaching American Sign Language to students. Understanding of methodology of teaching foreign language at the secondary level. Experience developing and implementing ASL curriculum. Responsibilities Ability to work effectively as a team member with colleagues. Flexible, dependable and highly organized. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to teach ASL as a foreign language. Salary Salary based on the 2025-26 salary schedule.
