About the position

The position is for a World Language Teacher specializing in Spanish for grades K-8 at Carlstadt Public School. The teacher will work under the supervision of the School Principal to develop students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish, while also fostering an understanding and appreciation of the cultures where Spanish is predominantly spoken. The role requires the development and administration of a foreign language curriculum that aligns with school district goals, promoting a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers foreign language education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in the language, including comprehension, grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage.
  • Develops student understanding and appreciation of the cultures and mores of Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

Requirements

  • Certification/License: NJ World Language Teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of the Spanish language, including grammar, word usage, and literature.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful prior foreign language teaching experience.
