About The Position

The GEM Program is looking for enthusiastic undergraduate students to join our team as Workshop Assistants. In this role, you’ll support engaging, hands-on GEM Workshops by helping participants work through math-based activities and ensuring each session runs smoothly. This is a great opportunity to build communication, customer service, and facilitation skills while positively impacting student learning. You’ll work closely with workshop participants and staff, assist with setup and logistics, and help create a welcoming, supportive environment that encourages learning and participation.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an institution of higher education
  • Eligible to work as an hourly, non-Duke student employee
  • Able to commit to scheduled workshop hours

Responsibilities

  • Assist with facilitating GEM Workshops and supporting participants during math-based activities
  • Manage, distribute, and organize workshop supplies and materials
  • Provide courteous, clear assistance to participants and answer general questions
  • Support workshop logistics, including setup, breakdown, and general coordination
