About The Position

The Working Shop Foreman position at the Montana Department of Transportation involves overseeing the repair and maintenance of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role is critical in ensuring the operational efficiency of the Equipment Bureau, which manages over 4000 units and 800 vehicles in the State's Motor Pool Program. The foreman will engage in hands-on work with machinery, including welding, cutting, and fabricating tools and equipment, while also managing a team of technicians.

Requirements

• AAS/two-year degree or vocational training in a related field.
• Three years of experience in heavy or light duty repair, including vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions and a tank endorsement.
• Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC).

Nice To Haves

• Five years of equipment repair and operation experience at a journeyman level.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the repair and maintenance of machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Engage in hands-on repair work on gas and diesel engines, pumps, motors, and heavy equipment.
• Engineer, design, and fabricate tools and equipment as needed.
• Modify existing equipment to improve functionality.
• Utilize various hand and power tools, measuring gauges, and diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain and work with parts and service manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
