The Working Lead will perform their typical duties and also take responsibility for the other team members and the work performed on their shift. The Working Lead will coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications within their department. The role will model and reinforce continuous improvement to safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and morale.

  • Identify and eliminate unsafe conditions in the work area. Model and reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Recommend and participate in the implementation of safety improvements within the department.
  • Comply with GMP and ISO 13485 quality system standards. Model and reinforce quality standards.
  • Plan and deliver timely training to ensure that all operators are competent.
  • Ensure quality problems are quickly identified, contained, eliminated, and prevented from recurring.
  • Assist with complaint investigations as needed. Contain potential problems, investigate causes, implement solutions and prevent the problem from recurring.
  • Work with planning and scheduling to efficiently meet customer delivery expectations by ensuring schedules are thoughtfully coordinated.
  • Communicate production schedules and ensure travelers are complete and ready for production.
  • Measure and reduce changeover times.
  • Review production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Measure daily work order performance and investigate negative variances.
  • Ensure that all manufacturing employees are trained to the latest standardized work.
  • Train and mentor the other operators on effective work habits, time-management and other key skills.
  • Manage the electronic barcode system for the department, correcting and working to prevent errors through development and implementation of corrective actions, training and coaching.
  • Model the company values to create a culture of open communication, data-driven decisions, relentless preparation, winning as a team, and over-delivering.
  • Use Key Performance Indicators and the MOS/LTM standards to communicate goals and progress.
  • Develop the workforce’s technical, and communication skills to ensure operational performance can be sustained over time and disruptions to customer needs are prevented.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying current and potential process and equipment problems and developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions, eliminating waste and improving operational performance.
  • Work with the Team Leader to ensure timely reporting of eMOS data.
  • Report on key metrics during daily/weekly Production Meetings.
  • Manage the department Kanban system if applicable.
  • High school Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience; leadership experience or aptitude
  • Familiar with quality system standards (e.g. ISO 9001, 13485, QS9000, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Knowledge of process and requirements development best practices
  • Ability to establish a positive and effective working relationship with team members from all functional disciplines as well as senior management
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and history of optimizing manufacturing processes.
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills and experience in enterprise applications
