About The Position

Incumbents provide general support and counseling services to students and prospective students requiring knowledge in a single area or across a number of disciplines. Responsibilities may include academic advising, providing career or personal guidance and/or information to students; and preparing presentations for students. The SkillUP Grant partially funds this position. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon external funding. The SkillUP Grant is a workforce development initiative that helps SNAP recipients gain the training, skills, and support needed to achieve employment and self-sufficiency. Funded through the Missouri Department of Social Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, SkillUP provides short-term training, career coaching, and supportive services to help individuals move toward sustainable careers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field and a minimum of one year of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, career, and personal guidance to students throughout the College.
  • Research academic, career, and personal information necessary to support student needs, while compiling and providing internal and external resources.
  • Ensure the safety of student records and other information by filing documentation in the proper areas, both physically and through various software programs. Determine if student information should be shared to outside constitutes, as needed.
  • Coordinate and facilitate campus visits and/or events for current and prospective students.
  • Coordinate and teach courses and workshops for program participants.
  • Perform communication duties such as creating and maintaining social media sites content as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the SkillUP program, including, but not limited to: communication, recruitment, eligibility verification, enrollment, advising, and accountability reporting.
  • Recruit prospective Workforce students through means such as tabling, hosting presentations, partnering with campus and community resources, and through community outreach.
  • Direct prospective students through the Workforce application process, provide accurate program information by maintaining a working knowledge of Workforce and Employment services programs and services, and maintain employment and education records.
  • In conjunction with the Workforce and Employment Services office, support SkillUP participants and other Workforce students with a broad range of social, personal, career, and academic issues. Act as a coach and maintain contact with participants to motivate participants toward program completion and employment.
  • Navigate current students, alumni, and community members through career exploration and career preparation.
  • Assist SkillUP participants with access to internal and external financial assistance programs, including, but not limited to: SkillUP funds, WIOA training funds, and other resources as available.
  • Collaboratively work with external partners, including Family Services Department Resource Center, Missouri Community College Association, and the local Job Centers to ensure the dissemination of information and access to services for students.
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted with confidentiality and within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Utilize various technologies and software such as MOJobs, MyOneFlow, Viking Connect, and Google Suite daily.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
