About The Position

SUNY Schenectady County Community College's Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WFD&CE) is seeking a part-time General Education Development (GED) Prep Instructor. This position(s) requires an experienced instructor capable of planning, implementing, instructing, assessing, and evaluating an educational program for Non-credit Community Education courses in (GED) Preparation. The individual is responsible for delivery of a course outline, syllabus, lectures, assessment materials, and materials related to the course. The course outline and/or syllabus will be provided to WFD&CE prior to the start of each course. WFD&CE has classrooms on our main campus and satellite locations in Schenectady. Depending on the needs of the student cohort, instruction may be delivered in-person or virtually, synchronously or asynchronously. The instructor will assist students in academically preparing for all sections of the GED exam, as well as provide feedback and evaluation. The instructor may be required to work with community funding and industry partners. This is a part time position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or extensive experience in the course field.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience and expertise in appropriate field.
  • Experience within a diverse classroom setting with students of differing ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to connect with and build nurturing relationships with students.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Education.
  • Previous experience in the delivery of GED course materials and GED testing protocol.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of subject matter.
  • Administer and evaluate the TABE assessment as well as the GED practice exam, when appropriate.
  • Plan and conduct activities/lessons and select appropriate learning materials based on GED exam academic areas of Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Math, in order to prepare students to take the GED exam.
  • Differentiate instruction so as to meet all students' learning styles, abilities and needs.
  • Teach desirable work habits and study skills.
  • Assess, track and provide feedback to students on achievement and developmental needs.
  • Encourage, engage and motivate students.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as attendance, reports and evaluations.
