About The Position

The Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant supports the Program Manager and Paralegal with legal administrative duties including but not limited to filing motions and other legal documents via the administrative court system, management of the onsite and digital file systems and spreadsheets, learn state guidelines/statutes/rules and fee schedules for the associated state workers' compensation, follow-up with Workers Compensation case files. The legal assistant will at times perform case law research for the Program Manager and Paralegal.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and/or 3 years’ legal experience in Workers Compensation or Liability field
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • Must have attention to detail
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Long term interest in risk, legal, workers compensation, or related field
  • Experience with shared files, Adobe, Foxit
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology
  • Experience as a claims adjuster, CNA, or in another medical role

Responsibilities

  • Logs in hearing notices, settlement and administrative conferences to calendar
  • Keeps files updated by contacting and communicating with attorneys on case progress
  • Maintaining Excel spreadsheets for continuous monitoring re: monies being collected re: TPL/WC Settlements and underpayments
  • Assisting with the preparation and filing of legal documents and correspondence
  • Responding to Third Party Liability Lien hold requests
  • Proofreading legal documents for the manager and paralegal
  • Provides support to the department as needed
