Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in insurance, workers’ compensation, medical, customer service, or related field
  • Strong communication, empathy, analytical ability, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of multi‑state workers’ compensation statutes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and claims systems
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Insurance designations and adjuster licensing (or ability to obtain) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluate and determine compensability on complex claims within assigned authority
  • Manage medical and indemnity claims across MN, NE, SD, IA, WI, MO, and KS
  • Apply Claims Best Practices in investigation, coverage evaluation, and loss assessment
  • Conduct timely first contact with injured workers and employers
  • Interview injured employees and coordinate with providers, employers, and agents
  • Review medical documentation to assess treatment appropriateness
  • Establish and manage reserves; ensure accurate and timely benefit payments
  • Identify critical claim issues and pursue subrogation when appropriate
  • Manage litigated claims and collaborate with defense counsel and specialists
  • Utilize internal and external resources, including nurse case managers
  • Maintain detailed, compliant claim files for audit readiness
  • Participate in claim reviews, audits, and special projects
