About The Position

The Workday Enterprise Solutions Team (WEST) is responsible for the administration and optimization of Workday and related systems for Finance, Human Resources, and Research Administration across the Universities of Wisconsin, while focusing on people, processes, and technology. The WEST Data and Reporting team supports data and reporting needs across the UW universities and the UW System through the development and maintenance of an enterprise data warehouse (the Enterprise Analytics Platform, EAP), Tableau dashboards, Workday reports, BIRT reports, Prism reports, Workday dashboards and discovery boards, and more. The WEST Finance Team is seeking an experienced Workday Report Developer to design, develop, and optimize complex reports, dashboards, and discovery boards in Workday with a focus on finance data. In addition to developing, supporting and maintaining reports, the Workday Report Developer will assist the central Data and Reporting Team with report development and provide mentorship, guidance and training to WEST finance staff. It is expected that there will be close collaboration between report developers and integration developers across the WEST team. The Central Data and Reporting team will also support Finance work in additional to supporting HR. The desire for this role is to be fully dedicated to support the various needs of the WEST finance team and our finance stakeholders. Some of these activities will include stakeholder design and requirements gathering sessions, working group meeting support and facilitation, and working directly with the Finance Director and Finance Teams to support reporting work. To be successful in this position, you will need to intentionally collaborate with peers across WEST and work to actively foster a respectful, inclusive and safe team environment. This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Final schedule will be formalized during the offer process with the selected candidate.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in developing Workday reports
  • Experience working with Finance data
  • Ability to diagnose and solve complex data and reporting issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with peers, customers and stakeholders
  • Ability to understand business challenges and translate them into technical solutions by collaborating with cross functional partners to develop detailed functional specifications, validate and document data, and test reports and/or dashboards

  • Demonstrated success developing composite reports in Workday
  • Experience developing Business Intelligence Reporting Tool (BIRT) reports in Workday
  • Experience with Worksheets, Dashboards and Discovery Boards

Responsibilities

  • Supports report developers outside of the Finance Team through knowledge sharing, design reviews, build reviews, and training
  • Oversee, assess, and approve the content and quality of complex design/build documentation for approval by business SMEs and project team leads.
  • Author documentation for highly complex design/build documentation outside of the expertise of lower level BI developers
  • Partners with a team of business analysts, business subject matter experts (SMEs), source system data analysts, data architects, and ETL developers to interpret documented user requirements for enterprise-wide stakeholders.
  • Works with data warehouse architects, data modelers, and ETL developers to document and present highly complex options through mock-ups and prototypes, refining underlying data structures to best meet use cases
  • Review and approve, based on scope and requirements, BI developer resource effort and timing to design, build, test, and release BI developer solutions.
  • Understand and balance developer resources across multiple competing projects to mitigate risks.
  • Identify options for backfill or external resource acquisition to fulfil resource requirements
  • Works with multiple data domains/sets and data architectures (unstructured/structured) and using advanced expertise in a broad set of enterprise-scale tools, matches the right data presentation modality to user requirements.
  • Employs deep expertise in data visualization and storytelling to design, prototype, test, and deliver accurate, sustainable enterprise solutions for large-scale user populations
  • Designs and documents enterprise BI development standards, assesses impact on existing BI projects, proposes solutions, and shepherds them through stakeholder feedback and governance approval.
  • Resolves highly complex BI development issues escalated from lower-level BI developers
