The Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist position at Advocate Health involves performing nerve conduction studies and communicating with patients to ensure they understand the procedures. The role requires flexibility in scheduling, ideally working three days a week between two locations: Summit and Waukesha clinic. The position is part-time, requiring 24 hours per week, and is located in Oconomowoc, WI.

  • Communicates with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirm acknowledgment of patients' understanding and address any questions or concerns.
  • Reviews patient's medical record to confirm the ordered test and maintains active communication with physicians.
  • Prepares the patient for the procedure by applying surface electrodes and administering shocks to elicit evoked responses.
  • Records measurements of distances, amplitudes, latencies, and temperatures for physician review.
  • Distinguishes between normal and abnormal results, documents artifacts, and takes proper measures to monitor them.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation when entering patient information into the computer system.
  • Organizes and prepares the exam room/work area, including cleaning, stocking, and ordering supplies.
  • Performs routine care, cleaning, and calibration of equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
  • Performs patient positioning and transporting duties, utilizing proper lifting techniques.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific care and assesses data reflective of the patient's status.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Advanced training beyond high school in electromyography.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the peripheral nervous system and electro-diagnostic medicine.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.
