About The Position

This position is offered through the Federal Work Study Program. In order to be considered for the position, you must meet the requirements of the program. The function of the job is to provide direct literacy instruction to school-age children with math or reading skills below their grade level expectations.

Requirements

• Education major or parent preferred
• Must have adequate reading & math skills
• Must have good oral & written communication skills
• Must have the ability to talk to children, parents, and school personnel
• Must have a high degree of motivation & creativity
• Must be punctual & reliable
• Must have transportation
• Must attend a VITAL Tutor Training (mandatory)
• Must familiarize themselves with the VITAL Program

Responsibilities

• Reading tutor or teachers aide for children in elementary school
• Math tutor or teachers aide for elementary or higher grades
• Activities in which an Outreach Work-study serves as a mentor for such purposes as tutoring
• Working as an instructional aide who may occasionally prepare materials for certain activities
• Other duties as reasonably assigned by Supervisor
