About The Position

The Work Planner position is a full-time, non-exempt role that reports to the Foreperson or General Foreperson. The essential functions of this role include obtaining necessary permissions from property owners and municipalities for tree trimming, removal, or herbicide application. The Work Planner is responsible for securing permits, arranging access with customers, and advising on any potential interruptions. They will explain the work to be done, set timelines, and maintain accurate records related to permissions and notifications. The role involves planning and laying out work for crew members, considering various factors such as equipment access, time requirements, and weather conditions. The Work Planner will inspect right-of-ways, respond to inquiries about work specifications, and ensure compliance with utility specifications. They will also assist in managing crews during storm restoration operations and may work on rough terrain as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Basic knowledge of trees, including identification and arboricultural techniques.
  • Understanding of American National Standards for Tree Care Operations (ANSI Z133.1-2000).
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps.
  • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Completion of an approved customer relations course.
  • Ability to achieve ISA certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Enforcement of on-the-job safety practices.
  • Ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Ability to write, read, and comprehend job instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Valid medical card to drive company vehicles over 10,001 lbs. GVWR.
  • Possession of valid First-Aid and CPR cards.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain oral or written permission from property owners and municipalities for tree work.
  • Secure appropriate permits when necessary.
  • Arrange access with customers and advise on interruptions.

  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of records related to permissions.
  • Plan and lay out work for crew members considering various factors.
  • Inspect right-of-ways to assess vegetation conditions.
  • Respond to questions and concerns regarding work specifications.
  • Inspect work completed by crews for compliance with specifications.
  • Assist in managing crews during storm restoration operations.
  • Provide support on special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
