About The Position

This Work Operations Manager (WOM) position will focus primarily on supporting Water Programs, Aggregate Area soil remediation and waste operations for the N3B Environmental Remediation (ER) organization. The Work Operations Manager will be responsible for providing planning support, work authorization, project coordination and oversight of day-to-day operations of environmental remediation and restoration activities throughout LANL, ensuring the safe operation of the work and the status control of safety systems and work control/work release for all activities within support organizations.

Requirements

  • Working skilled and ability to perform critical strategic tasks, to interpret broad strategic requirements, and to develop and execute plans that satisfy them.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Conduct of Operations principles, concepts and techniques in construction or facility operations techniques, with knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • High degree of skill in reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Broad knowledge of trade techniques and practices in environmental and construction projects – including but not limited to concrete, grading, and excavating.
  • Ability to organize own work independently in order to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties.
  • Ability to have major impact on organizational success and productivity, with extensive latitude for independent judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at the highest levels.
  • Ability to develop and lead large-sized projects, including defining scope, objectives and methods.
  • Ability to cultivate a close relationship with multiple customers to understand their needs, respond quickly to their requests, and provide feedback in a timely manner.
  • Ability to train and mentor more junior staff.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, engineering technology, or equivalent related to the work to be performed and 5-8 years of experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.

  • 5 years of practical construction engineering, construction management, process engineering or facility operations experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience related to radiological contamination, ecological concerns, and regulatory requirements associated with construction, environmental, or facility operations projects is desirable.
  • Supervisory experience and familiarity with craft support work are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • As a lead or seasoned, independent professional, plans, develops, coordinates, reviews, assesses and directs the execution of complex engineering and environmental remediation projects, resolving a variety of complex problems.
  • Ensures compliance with subcontractor schedules, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Reviews and approves Integrated Work Control Documents.
  • Verifies completion of all project planning requirements and authorizes work through ER Plan of the Day and Shift Orders.
  • Completes observation field visits and completes reports.
  • Coordinates work with Facility Operations Directors.
  • Ensures adherence to safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems and determines necessity for changes or remedial actions.
  • Reports issues and participates in investigations and corrective action development and tracking.
  • Makes recommendations for changes in remediation or construction plans to meet field conditions.
  • Prepare operations procedures or Standing Orders.
  • Develops and provides assessments of work scope, potential safety problems and special design considerations.
  • Establishes, monitors, and adjusts schedules to assure adequate N3B union craft resource availability on N3B Self-performed projects.
  • Trains and mentors more junior staff.
