About The Position

Serve as the Coordinator of Work-Based Learning CU/CE and SkillsUSA, advise WBL students, stay current with curriculum changes, assist faculty with advisement issues, and assist with recruitment and retention initiatives. This position requires day, evening, and occasional weekend hours and travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, preferably in education, business, workforce development or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work-related experience.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required for events and meetings with advance notice.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with people internal and external to the institution.
  • Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change.
  • Flexible and adapts to change.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skill in the use of computers and commitment to use of technology.
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple departments and activities of others.
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution, preferably in education, business, workforce development, or related field.
  • Experience working with students, employers, or community partners in a professional or educational setting.
  • Social media or marketing experience, particularly related to program and employer engagement.
  • Familiarity with SkillsUSA or other career and technical student organizations (CTSOs) including event coordination or student leadership development.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the coordinator of the College's Work-Based Learning (WBL) for CU and CE (emphasis on programs related to the US Department of Energy grant program as needed).
  • Assist Academic Affairs and Continuing Education to ensure the student is matched to an appropriate work-based learning opportunity related to their program of study; monitor the internship providing support and guidance to the student, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Provide orientation for WBL-enrolled students.
  • Assist Academic Affairs and Continuing Education in the promotion of Work-Based Learning opportunities.
  • Create and maintain relationships with the business and industry community to support WBL opportunities.
  • Maintain student files, in compliance with WBL (Section 20) Curriculum Procedures Reference Manual and 1D SBCCC 300.10.
  • Verify time spent by students in WBL (per timesheets).
  • Visit the work site at least once per term.
  • Evaluate the student's performance in the course and post the appropriate grade.
  • Facilitate support services as needed.
  • Create and maintain a database of employers for WBL experiences.
  • Create and maintain a database of students who were assisted with WBL or job placement.
  • Coordinate and oversee the SkillsUSA program.
  • Manage the Workforce Development social media pages.
  • Oversee clubs related to workforce and SkillsUSA.
  • Assist the Director of Apprenticeships and Work-Based Learning as needed.
  • Coordinate and/or assist with activities and events, including but not limited to, Making it Work, job fairs, recruitment events, registration, auditing, etc.
  • Assist with grant-related reporting requirements as needed.
  • Participate in professional and staff development opportunities.
  • Participate in Academic Affairs planning, evaluation, and program review.
  • Serve on committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and other related duties incidental to the work described.
