About The Position

The Woodworks Floor Manager oversees daily operations at Silver Maple Woodworks' Cabinet Shop. This role includes supervising cabinetmakers, managing the workflow from start to finish, and providing hands-on training for team members of all skill levels. The Woodworks Floor Manager ensures smooth operations, maintains high-quality standards, and offers technical guidance, problem-solving, and decision-making support. They create a productive, safe, and collaborative work environment, ensuring all projects meet client specifications and are completed on time.

Requirements

  • Cabinet Making Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of progressive, hands-on cabinet-making experience with master level proficiency in all aspects of construction, finishing, and installation.
  • Management and Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years successfully supervising teams in a production environment, with proven ability to manage and develop people
  • Education: High School Diploma, Trade School Certification, or GED
  • Valid Driver's License (for occasional site visits)

Responsibilities

  • Direct Supervision: Serve as the primary supervisor and authority figure for all Cabinet Maker positions at the Cabinet Shop, providing clear direction, accountability, and leadership
  • Daily Oversight: Maintain constant presence and oversight of all floor activities, ensuring team members are working efficiently, safely, and according to specifications
  • Work Direction: Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to team members based on project priorities, individual skill levels, and production requirements
  • Decision-Making Authority: Make real-time decisions regarding production issues, resource allocation, quality concerns, and workflow adjustments
  • Performance Oversight: Monitor individual and team performance continuously, providing immediate feedback, correction, and recognition as needed
  • Accountability Management: Hold team members accountable for quality standards, safety protocols, production deadlines, and professional conduct
  • Hands-On Training: Personally train and mentor all cabinet makers, demonstrating proper techniques, best practices, and the ‘Silver Maple Way’ standards of craftsmanship
  • Performance and Skill Assessment: Evaluate each team member's performance and skill levels and identify areas for improvement and development.
  • Training Program Development: Create and implement structured training programs for entry-level cabinet makers, ensuring systemic skill progression
  • Coaching: Provide ongoing coaching and correction during daily operations, ensuring continuous improvement and skill refinement
  • Technical Instruction: Teach proper use of all woodworking tools, equipment, and machinery, ensuring safe and efficient operations
  • Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate knowledge sharing between experienced and entry-level team members to build overall team capability
  • Complete Workflow Supervision: Oversee the entire production workflow from material preparation through final finishing, ensuring smooth transitions between all stages
  • Production Scheduling: Plan, coordinate, and adjust daily production schedules based on project deadlines, material availability, and team capacity
  • Bottleneck Elimination: Actively identify and eliminate workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or obstacles that impact production
  • Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and improve production processes to maximize efficiency and quality output
  • Work Prioritization: Determine project priorities and ensure the team focuses efforts on the most critical tasks and deadlines
  • Progress Monitoring: Track project progress throughout the day and make necessary adjustments to keep projects on schedule
  • Resource Coordination: Manage material flow, tool availability, and workspace organization to support efficient workflow
  • Quality Oversight: Inspect work at all stages of production to ensure every piece meets Silver Maple Woodworks' quality standards.
  • Standards Enforcement: Enforce quality control measures and hold team members accountable for maintaining high standards of craftsmanship
  • Project Identification: Identify quality issues early in the production process and take immediate corrective action.
  • Final Approval: Review and approve completed work before it leaves the floor or proceeds to installation
  • Rework Management: Supervise and guide the necessary rework to ensure defects are corrected properly and efficiently
  • Safety Culture: Create and maintain a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout the shop floor
  • Safety Training: Coordinate with Silver Maple’s Safety Advisor or Consultant by conducting regular safety training sessions and ensuring all team members understand and follow proper safety protocols
  • Equipment Oversight: Monitor proper use and maintenance of all woodworking tools and equipment, taking immediate action when safety concerns arise
  • Management Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Director of Woodworks on production status, team performance, and any issues requiring attention
  • Project Coordination: Work closely with project managers to understand specifications, timelines, and client expectations, translating these into clear floor-level direction
  • Team Communication: Conduct daily briefings with the team to communicate priorities, expectations, and any changes to plans
  • Issue Resolution: Address and resolve conflicts, concerns, or issues among team members promptly and professionally
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients as needed regarding project progress or technical questions
  • Technical Authority: Serve as the primary technical expert on the floor, providing guidance on complex construction methods, material selection, and problem-solving
  • Hands-On Leadership: Actively participate in cabinet making when needed, demonstrating proper techniques and leading by example
  • Blueprint interpretation: Review and interpret all blueprints and specifications before work begins, ensuring the team understands requirements
  • Problem Resolution: Quickly identify and resolve technical challenges or construction issues that arise during production
