About The Position

Reports directly to the Installation Supply Support Activity Supervisor. The Woodworker constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes, studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws. This worker fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple, repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers. This incumbent may build crate around object, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer, may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds, apply preservative to prolong wood life, and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.

Requirements

  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be a high school graduate or possess an equivalent diploma.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
  • Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Will be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds.
  • May work in a warehouse or outside.
  • Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicle.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must be a US Citizen or US permanent resident for more than 3 years to obtain NACI and CAC Card eligibility.
  • Must attend a mandatory two-week course, Pack-1B, located in Fort McCalister, Oklahoma.

Responsibilities

  • Fabrication and repair of various sizes and types of wooden items; uses a variety of power tools such as table saws, radial arm saws, nail guns and staple guns.
  • Responsible for creating the proper containers for shipping all material to CONUS and Non-CONUS destinations.
  • Responsible for filling out the required documentation necessary for shipping out-bound material.
  • Responsible for inspecting all material and associated documentation, thereby ensuring compliance with US Army Self-Certification Solid Wood Packing Material (SWPM) Program prior to processing.
  • Cleans oils and performs normal operator maintenance on machines.
  • Responsible for the repair/replacement of Open-End Container flooring.
  • Will be required to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in conjunction with daily duties.
