About The Position

This position is for an Assistant Manager at the new Woodstock store. The Assistant Manager assists in managing all aspects of the retail operation, supporting daily operational management, merchandising, administrative functions, human resources functions, and overall professionalism. The role involves promoting exceptional customer service, managing inventory flow, merchandising the store effectively, and conducting inventory. The Assistant Manager also supports financial goals, helps establish and maintain an effective team, trains retail associates, and provides performance feedback to the Store Manager. A key aspect is leading through safety, maintaining a safe work environment, overseeing the Safety Committee, and conducting safety training. Administrative duties include processing payroll and completing required reporting. The role also involves supporting Mission programs, communicating with other departments, cooperating with other stores, and working a schedule that includes nights and weekends. The position is based in a retail store environment with regular interaction with customers and merchandise, and also involves work in the warehouse area.

Requirements

  • A combination of education and relevant work experience that aligns with the duties of this position.
  • Familiarity with retail concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to provide oversight to location and employees.
  • Ability to make fast and accurate decisions in all aspects of daily operations.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with customers (internal and external).
  • Ability to set objectives and goals; break down work into process steps; measure performance against goals; evaluate results.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple issues/tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Driver’s license and proof of auto insurance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Able to stand in for the Store Manager in any area as necessary and assigned.
  • Understands and can work in any store function – sales, donation, textiles, and wares.
  • Promotes exceptional internal and external customer service through effective communication.
  • Helps manage overall flow and inventory of donated goods, new goods, and seasonal goods.
  • Merchandises store effectively through signage, displays, timely features and end caps, and an overall appealing sales floor.
  • Conducts inventory according to organizational guidelines.
  • Supports goals for financial results including sales growth and increased average sales.
  • Helps to establish and maintain an effective and respectful team in order to effectively achieve results.
  • Trains and provides day-to-day instruction to retail associates.
  • Creates a positive working environment.
  • Provides performance feedback to Store Manager.
  • Responsive and respectful towards others within the organization.
  • Role models appropriate behavior (courteous and respectful interactions).
  • Creates a positive and professional store culture.
  • Leads through keeping safety a priority including maintaining a safe and clean work environment, establishing a safety culture, and ensuring safety procedures are followed in all aspects of the business.
  • Understands and supports loss prevention practices.
  • Oversees safety and is chair of the Safety Committee.
  • Conducts safety training for all new employees and ensures annual retraining is completed.
  • Demonstrates regard for Goodwill’s assets including property and equipment.
  • Processes payroll according to organizational guidelines.
  • Completes required reporting accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Understands and helps to maintain Kaizen principles.
  • Actively supports Mission programs carried out in the store.
  • Communicates and works with other departments within Goodwill (HR, Finance, E-Commerce, etc.).
  • Cooperate with other stores as appropriate for the overall business.
  • Works a schedule that balances with the needs of the store including nights and weekends.
