What it's like to be a Secondary CTE Wood Tech Instructor As a Secondary CTE Wood Tech Instructor at Next Step of West Michigan, your day-to-day responsibilities will be both engaging and impactful. You will facilitate hands-on work sessions in our state-of-the-art woodshop, guiding students through essential carpentry techniques and safe manufacturing practices. Expect to develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans that integrate fabrication skills with real-world applications. Collaboration is key; you’ll work alongside fellow instructors and support staff to create a structured, high-performance learning environment. Daily tasks will include assessing student progress, providing mentorship in the skilled trades, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. You will also be responsible for maintaining equipment and materials, ensuring that everything is ready for production activities. Your role will extend beyond teaching, as you will actively engage with students to inspire growth, empathy, and ownership in their learning experiences, ultimately preparing them for successful careers in the trades.
Requirements
- Valid Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification in a related area, or eligible for or currently hold an Annual Occupational Authorization (ACA) through the Michigan Department of Education
- Minimum of 2 years woodworking industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of shop safety and OSHA standards (or be willing to take OSHA training)
- Ability to manage and maintain tools, equipment, and shop materials
- Knowledge of varied teaching strategies to differentiate learning.
- Eager to work collaboratively with other instructors, staff and administrators.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- U.S. Work Authorization required.
- Proficiency with CAD/ CAM programming
- Proficiency with woodworking machinery including CNC.
- Proficiency with Microsoft products, Google Suite and iPad apps
