The Wood Department Manager is responsible for achieving sales budgets and providing an exceptional shopping experience to every customer through established company guidelines concerning sales, customer service, and staff training and development. This role involves driving, teaching, and adhering to the P’s of retail, including People, Product, Price, Purchasing, Position, Presentation, Promotion, and Pro Services. The manager will engage customers, ensure quality customer service from associates, and strategically merchandise products according to company guidelines, maintaining store presentation standards. They are also tasked with guaranteeing the safety and security of customers and employees by following loss prevention and risk management procedures, and assisting the Chief Executive Merchant in fostering a seamless customer service focus. Administratively, the position requires conducting weekly competitive shops, communicating pricing and inventory issues, and analyzing various business reports such as Profit & Loss statements, Category Performance Reports, Business Analysis Tool Reports, Store Purchase Order Analysis Reports, and Store Price Change Reports to optimize merchandising, in-stock positions, and pricing. The manager will utilize computer and point-of-sale systems for accurate inventory management, cycle counts, and profit and loss management, including shipping and receiving. Ensuring brand and operating standards are met and interfacing with corporate headquarters employees are also key. Supervisory responsibilities include ensuring maximum scheduling coverage during peak traffic periods, reviewing and assessing associate performance, training, developing, and defining the workload of store associates. The manager will monitor associate retention and career development, address and document unsatisfactory performance or policy violations through disciplinary action, and ensure compliance with scheduling, hiring, payroll, and business planning processes. Additionally, the manager will assist the Chief Executive Merchant with store-level human resources or loss prevention issues and be available to open and/or close the store.
