About The Position

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care to assigned patients in the Womens & Outpatient Surgery Center. The role involves utilizing the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and patient care coordination. It also includes teaching, quality improvement, and demonstrating professional excellence. Requirements

  • Associate Degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR biennial certification.
  • Additional certifications (i.e. ACLS, PALS, NRP) for specialty care areas are required upon hire.
  • One-year Registered Nurse experience.
  • Proficiency in developing nursing plan of care, implementing effective nursing care, and evaluating outcome of nursing intervention.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Effective skills in use of computer programs.
  • Demonstrates skill in patient experience and service recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Compile database and formulate nursing diagnosis.
  • Utilize physical assessment and interviewing techniques.
  • Anticipate need for intervention by other disciplines.
  • Determine priorities for patient care needs or problems.
  • Reassess the patient as indicated by changes in condition and/ or response to treatment(s).
  • Initiate and update a written nursing plan of care for patients by incorporating scientific and psychosocial principles that support the nursing diagnosis.
  • Incorporate information obtained from nursing care planning conferences into written nursing plan of care.
  • Coordinate patient, family, significant other, and health team members in the planning of hospital and post-discharge care.
  • Perform clinical nursing skills independently.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy and treatments appropriately and accurately.
  • Initiate appropriate emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Appropriately delegate and coordinate the duties of ancillary personnel.
  • Communicate the patient's status and plan of care through written documentation in the patient's medical record.
  • Verbally communicate the patient's status to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
  • Communicate in a therapeutic manner with the patient, family and visitors.
  • Apply teaching/learning principles in education of patient and family.
  • Manage daily patient assignment by appropriately setting priorities.
  • Delegate responsibility appropriately and monitor the nursing care delivered to patients by ancillary personnel.
  • Coordinate patient activities with other disciplines.
  • Develop, document and implement Patient Teaching and Discharge Planning Record.
  • Participate in established patient, family, staff and/or student education program.
  • Participate in clinical monitoring at the unit level.
  • Identify unit, staff and patient care problems and take action or refer problems to appropriate resources.
  • Participate in activities of the RN 3 (excluding Nurse Residency Program facilitation).
  • Serve as a charge RN and monitor productivity/patient flow (if competent).
  • Precept new staff (if competent).
