About The Position

The Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner/Midwife provide quality outpatient prenatal, gynecological and primary care for women, within a community-based setting that promotes healthy lifestyles, prevention of illness and injury and management of acute and chronic conditions. Activities involve direct patient care, physical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral for specialty services as needed, and follow-up. The Family and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner provide care in collaboration with the center’s Physicians and Medical Director. Demonstrates a sincere commitment to the mission of Neighborhood Health.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Certified as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP), Certified Nurse Midwife, Family Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Virginia with Women’s Health Experience
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • 1 or more years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Midwife.
  • Demonstrated competency in colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, IUD insertion and removal, and contraceptive implant insertion and removal.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and client base.
  • Experience with information technology, electronic health records, medical records, culturally diverse populations and care of underserved populations.

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnosis and treatment of common gynecological problems, care for patients during the preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum periods, provide family planning according to protocols and evidence-based practice; prescribes medication and treatment according to protocol, formulary and evidence-based practice and if necessary, in collaboration with physician providers.
  • Effectively manage cervical HPV disease according to ASCCP guidelines
  • Perform in office procedures including Colposcopy, IUD insertion/removal, Endometrial biopsy, Intradermal contraception, and Bartholin’s gland cyst management.
  • Performs patient history and physical assessment; utilizes laboratory and diagnostic tests for differential diagnoses, with follow up treatment as medically indicated.
  • Orders recommended screenings and preventive treatments as recommended by the Neighborhood Health Quality Assurance program and standard clinical practice.
  • Maintains electronic patient medical record in accordance with Neighborhood Health documentation policy.
  • Refers for specialty care and follows up with patient as indicated.
  • Collaborates with nursing, behavioral health, dental, referral coordinators, pharmacy and other support staff to assure maximum patient access to support services.
  • Works closely with clinical staff to ensure a team approach to the delivery of services and a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Participates in Neighborhood Health peer review program.
  • Participates on Health Center committees as appointed by Chief Medical Officer
  • Attends regular staff meetings and trainings as required by Neighborhood Health
  • Assist with developing, coordinating and recommending changes for the improvement of workflow in the program or section area.
  • Assists with developing and recommending changes to improve quality of patient care.
  • May be assigned to various project lead roles to advance the development of the department and support ad hoc needs.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision
  • Employee will be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.
