There are still lots of open positions. Let's find the one that's right for you.
WMTW-TV, the ABC affiliate in Portland, ME, is excited to announce an opening for a spring News Intern. This 10-week paid internship is designed to provide individuals with a comprehensive understanding of the operations of a broadcast television station. Interns will have the unique opportunity to gain insights into the broadcast industry through hands-on experience across various positions within the News and Production departments. The internship is scheduled to run from approximately mid-May until mid-August, with some flexibility based on the intern's availability. As a News Intern, you will work closely with reporters, producers, directors, studio operators, and News managers, immersing yourself in nearly all aspects of television news creation. This role is not just about observing; you will actively participate in the newsroom's daily operations. Interns will engage in various tasks, including learning how news is gathered and assigned at the Assignment Desk, shadowing reporters during interviews and live shots, and assisting photographers in filming and editing news stories. Additionally, you will explore the strategic use of WMTW's website and social media platforms, gaining valuable insights into digital media. The internship also covers the production side of news broadcasting, where you will understand the process of creating a news broadcast from scratch, including the basics of television news writing. You will observe the technical execution of newscasts, including directing live shows and managing audio operations. Furthermore, interns will have the chance to learn about departments outside of the newsroom, such as Sales, Creative Services, and Engineering. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students looking to build a career in broadcast journalism and gain practical experience in a dynamic environment.
